Pioneering analyses of amber artifacts

From April 20-30, 2026, Dr. Jędrzej Proch participated in unique research on amber artifacts from one of the most important Bronze Age graves (discovered in Mycenae by Heinrich Schliemann). The team also included other scientists from the Faculty of Archaeology at Adam Mickiewicz University, Prof. Iwona Sobkowiak-Tabaka, and Prof. Janusz Czebreszuk. As part of the project, Dr. Proch conducted advanced analyses of the amber using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens. This was the first such comprehensive study in the history of archaeology!
