Report on the work of the Committee for Archaeometric Research in the structure of the Scientific Association of Polish Archaeologists (2025)
The composition of the Committee was established between 2021 and 2023 and has remained unchanged in subsequent years. The Committee consists of seven members and a three-person Commission Expert Team, comprising individuals associated with the Committee but not members of the Scientific Association of Polish Archaeologists. As in previous years, we see the purpose of the Committee’s work in gathering information on the tools available for archaeometric work and addressing interpretative and cognitive issues.
Through the efforts of the Committee, a website was created: irga.web.amu.edu.pl/snap-committee, which contains two databases of archaeometric research. The “Projects” database presents ongoing archaeometric research, while the “Research” database contains information on research techniques available to archaeologists through the Committee.
In 2025, we have continued our project with the Warsaw University of Technology: Multidisciplinary Research in the Areas of Nazi Germany extermination camps. We also continued archaeometric work with the Podlasie Museum in Białystok, the Archaeological and Historical Museum in Stargard, the Regional Museum in Wągrowiec, and the Museum of the First Piast Dynasty in Lednica. Members of the Committee were involved in the running of Archaeometry, the first in Poland, new Master’s degree course (ISCED level 7) at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. These studies appear to be a valuable platform for educating professional archaeometric researchers.
